Brandon Lorenzo Nominated for YYC Music Award in Country Category
Brandon Lorenzo, a country artist from Airdrie, Alberta, has been named a nominee for the 2026 YYC Music Awards in the Country Recording of the Year category. The nomination comes for his single “Drinkin’ Song On a Country Record,” which has accumulated nearly 500,000 streams on major platforms. The YYC Music Awards, held at the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino on September 20, recognize talent within Calgary’s local music scene.
Lorenzo’s career has spanned both Canada and the United States. He has appeared on stages such as Nashville’s The Troubadour and the Big Valley Jamboree in Alberta. Over the years, he has received several accolades for his vocal performance. He has been named Male Vocalist of the Year and Male Entertainer of the Year by the North American Country Music Association Awards. In addition, he earned the Male Vocalist of the Year (Modern Country) award from the Josie Music Awards, presented at the Grand Ole Opry.
The artist first won a YYC Music Award in 2020, taking home the People’s Choice Award. “We were nominated during the pandemic and that’s the year that we won,” Lorenzo recalled. “It looked a lot different in terms of celebrating because the award was delivered to me at one of the shows that we were doing.” He added that recognition “helps spread the word by getting my name out there while providing encouragement.” “Anytime that we get recognized for the work that we’re doing, it’s always a great feeling and it’s nice to know that people appreciate it,” he said.
“Drinkin’ Song On a Country Record” was pitched to Lorenzo by Nashville recording artists. “That nineties country feel is something that I’ve always kind of been known for in my music,” he said. The track tells the story of a budding romance that develops over shared music and moments, and it has become his highest‑streamed single to date. Lorenzo’s path into country music began in high school, when friends encouraged him to pursue the genre. “At first I didn’t believe them. And if you brought me back in time today and told that same kid that this is where I would be, I don’t think I would have believed you,” he laughed.
When not recording, Lorenzo tours extensively across North America. He has a busy Canadian summer schedule and will perform at AirdrieFEST on Saturday, September 12, on the Main Street Stage. “This will be our fourth time doing that,” he noted. “Anytime we get to play in Airdrie is a good feeling.” The artist will also be in Nashville on September 20 to attend another awards ceremony where he is nominated for three Josie Awards: Artist of the Year, Holiday Album of the Year, and Vocalist of the Year.
