When Universal Music Group (UMG) signed a global merchandising partnership with Apple Corps Ltd., the world’s most famous band stepped into a new era of fan engagement.

Under the agreement, UMG will manage every facet of Beatles merchandise—from physical goods to digital licensing and e‑commerce. The deal builds on UMG’s long‑standing stewardship of the band’s catalog, which includes classic releases such as Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. By handling worldwide distribution, UMG aims to bring Beatles‑branded products to collectors and casual listeners alike.

The timing of the partnership dovetails with Apple Corps’ launch of the first official Beatles fan experience, The Beatles at 3 Savile Row, scheduled to open in London in 2027. The seven‑floor venue will house never‑before‑seen archival material, rotating exhibitions, a recreation of the original Let It Be studio, and a dedicated fan store. Apple Corps CEO Tom Greene said the collaboration would “delight millions of fans with everything we have planned.”

Apple Corps’ roots trace back to the Beatles’ own founding of the company in 1968. Over the decades it has overseen Apple Records, Apple Electronics, Apple Films, Apple Publishing, and Apple Retail, and it now owns the original Savile Row building that once housed the Apple studio. The 2027 fan experience marks the first time the organization will open its archives to the public.

The merchandising deal arrives just before the premiere of a four‑part biopic series slated for April 2028. Director Sam Mendes will helm separate films that chronicle the lives of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. This project is the first instance in which the Beatles’ estates have granted full life‑story and music rights for scripted films.

UMG’s leadership underscored the partnership’s significance. Sir Lucian Grainge, Chairman and CEO of UMG, said the Beatles “embody music’s power to change the world” and that the collaboration would protect and grow the legacy through authentic fan experiences. UMG UK CEO Dickon Stainer added that the agreement would “ensure audiences across the world are opened up to their unique genius.”

Beyond physical merchandise, UMG will oversee digital licensing and e‑commerce platforms, leveraging its global network to reach fans worldwide. The partnership is expected to create new revenue streams and deepen engagement ahead of both the 2027 venue opening and the 2028 biopic releases.

At present, the partnership is in effect, with UMG handling all merchandising logistics. Apple Corps will launch the 3 Savile Row experience in 2027, and the four biopic films will debut in April 2028. No further details on release dates or touring schedules have been announced.
