Tony Iommi Announces New Solo Album From The Dark, Set for October 23 Release
The record is a partnership between Iommi and Norwegian vocalist Jørn Lande, who co‑writes every track. Bassist Becky Baldwin and drummer Karl Brazil provide the rhythm section on all songs, while production is shared by Iommi and long‑time studio collaborator Mike Exeter, whose partnership dates back several decades. In the press release, the album’s sound is described as crystalline and vibrant, blending a contemporary feel with the heavy‑metal roots Iommi helped pioneer.
In his announcement, Iommi said, “It’s an album we’ve really enjoyed making. We’re not trying to prove anything – it’s a great album, it rocks!” The opening single, “World Alone,” showcases Lande’s powerful vocals layered over a barrage of guitar riffs and solos. Its accompanying video presents a retro‑future dystopian narrative in which a character named The Believer is thrust into a twisted video game to save his life.
The core tracklist contains eight songs: 1. Over The Violent Sun 2. Black Times 3. World Alone 4. Beyond The Dead 5. Stormwatcher 6. Death Wake 7. Return Of The Arbalist 8. Legacy
A deluxe CD edition adds two bonus tracks, “Scent Of Dark” and “Deified.” The release will also appear in several physical formats. A double LP will be issued in four color variants—black, marble (red & black, white & black), and transparent blue—each with a die‑cut gatefold sleeve featuring a stylized cross. The vinyl will be cut at 45 rpm for optimal dynamic range.
Additional packaging options include a deluxe CD media book edition with a 32‑page booklet and the same bonus tracks, an Amazon‑exclusive CD digisleeve with a die‑cut cover and 12‑page booklet, and a standard CD digisleeve with a 12‑page booklet. A limited edition 7” single of “World Alone,” backed with an instrumental version, will be released on September 4 in a foiled sleeve.
From The Dark follows Black Sabbath’s final concert in 2025 at the Back to the Beginning show in Birmingham and marks Iommi’s return to solo work after a 21‑year gap since his 2005 album Fused. The project aligns with BMG’s strategy to promote veteran artists with new material and expanded physical formats.
Pre‑orders are available through the official link: https://tonyiommi.lnk.to/fromthedarkPR. Digital downloads and streaming will launch on all major platforms on the release date.
The announcement underscores Iommi’s lasting influence in heavy metal and his knack for collaborating with contemporary talent. Themes of dystopia, existential questioning, and the human condition run through Lande’s lyrics and Iommi’s signature down‑tuned guitar work. Fans and critics will be watching the album’s chart and streaming performance in the weeks ahead.
The release of From The Dark adds a significant entry to Iommi’s catalog and demonstrates the enduring relevance of his musicianship in today’s rock landscape.
