Adelaide Progressive Metal Band Control The Sun Releases Second Single "Pyre"
Formed by veterans of local acts Japam and Colibrium, Control The Sun’s lineup features guitarist Chris Gard, guitarist Jack Thomson, vocalist Christian Tassone, bassist Matt Mitris and drummer Gerard Kotlowy. “Say It’s Over” explored the loss of youth and the struggle to abandon destructive habits, a theme the band said was meant to strike a chord with listeners who have felt the bittersweet march of time.
“Pyre” turns the lens toward renewal and transformation. According to the band, the song takes inspiration from ancient funeral rites in which deceased royalty were cremated to aid their passage into the afterlife. The imagery serves as a metaphor for cleansing and new beginnings. Musically, the single anchors itself on a hard‑hitting guitar riff while keeping the group’s declared goal of fusing aggression with intricate arrangements and memorable melodies. A self‑produced video accompanied the release.
Control The Sun is also collaborating with Australian producer and engineer Forrester Savell, whose credits span progressive and heavy music and who is regarded as one of the country’s most recognizable studio figures. The partnership signals the band’s ambition to refine its sound and expand its catalogue under professional guidance.
Live activity has kept the band in the public eye. After their debut appearance at Froth And Fury, the group has scheduled its next performance for the Downpour event in Adelaide in August. Tickets for the show are available through Moshtix. Live shows remain a key part of the band’s strategy to build momentum from its first two releases.
Adelaide’s progressive metal scene has long been fertile ground for new acts. The city, designated a UNESCO City of Music, hosts numerous festivals and boasts a robust network of venues and support organisations. Control The Sun’s emergence from this environment, with members who already have established reputations in the local heavy‑music circuit, positions the group as a fresh yet experienced voice in the genre.
At present, Control The Sun has released two singles and is preparing for a forthcoming live show. No chart positions, streaming figures, or legal matters have been reported. The band’s next steps include the Downpour performance and the continued development of its catalogue under Forrester Savell’s production.
