Victoria Conservatory of Music Announces Summer 2026 Concert Series
The Victoria Conservatory of Music (VCM) has unveiled a three‑performance summer concert series slated for July 7 to August 22, 2026. Each show will showcase faculty members, emerging musicians, and participants from the conservatory’s intensive training programs.
The season opens on July 7 with the Summer Strings Faculty in Concert. Instructors from VCM’s Summer Intensive Program for Strings will perform a program that blends contemporary works with classical repertoire. A week later, on July 14, the Baroque Summer Intensive Program presents A Musical Banquet, featuring masterpieces by Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel alongside lesser‑known Baroque pieces. The series culminates on August 22 with the Choral Summer Intensive Final Performance, which will highlight Canadian choral music drawn from contemporary compositions and folk traditions.
All three concerts will take place in the Alix Goolden Performance Hall, a former United Church of Canada building erected in 1890. The hall’s renowned acoustics and architectural charm make it the conservatory’s primary performance venue. Dean Tricia Baldwin explained that the summer programming is designed to give aspiring musicians, young creators, and lifelong learners opportunities to refine their skills and connect with others through music.
Founded in 1964, VCM is the largest music school in Western Canada, serving more than 4,500 students each year. Its offerings span classical and contemporary music, music technology, post‑secondary studies, music therapy, and early childhood music. The conservatory also runs a two‑year performance‑oriented diploma program in partnership with Camosun College, with credits transferable to universities across Canada.
The summer series underscores VCM’s commitment to education and community engagement. By featuring faculty and students from its intensive programs, the conservatory provides a platform for performers to present a diverse repertoire—from Baroque masterpieces to modern Canadian choral works—while fostering collaboration among musicians of all ages.
Tickets are available through VCM’s website at vcm.bc.ca. The Alix Goolden Performance Hall is located at 900 Johnson Street, with entrance access from the same address. The announcement reaffirms VCM’s role as a cultural hub in Victoria and its ongoing efforts to promote high‑quality music education and performance opportunities throughout the summer of 2026.
